He completed his medical training in 1998, followed by an MSc and MD in psychiatry and substance misuse in 2009. Since 2013, he has been a respected member of the Royal College of Psychiatrists.

Throughout his career, Dr. Helmy has held key leadership positions, serving as the medical director for both inpatient and community services, with a focus on mental health and drug misuse disorders. His expertise extends to dual diagnoses, particularly in adult ADHD and substance misuse.
In addition to his clinical work, Dr. Helmy is an International Fellow of the American Psychiatric Association and a Fellow of the International Society of Addiction Medicine. He is also actively involved with the EMDR Association UK & Ireland.
